(AmericanProsperity.com) – A federal judge has breathed new life into a biased legal witch hunt by denying President-elect Donald Trump’s appeal against a $5 million defamation verdict favoring E. Jean Carroll.
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan, a notoriously liberal stronghold, cited dubious evidence of Trump’s past conduct to uphold the verdict.
Carroll accused Trump of sexual assault in the mid-1990s, which Trump publicly denied in a 2022 Truth Social post as a fabrication.
His denial prompted Carroll to file a defamation lawsuit, claiming his statements damaged her reputation.
Although the jury did not find Trump guilty of sexual assault, it awarded Carroll over $5 million: $2.02 million for sexual assault and $2.98 million for defamation.
In response to the appeals court, Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung called for an end to the case:
“The American People have re-elected President Trump with an overwhelming mandate, and they demand an immediate end to the political weaponization of our justice system and a swift dismissal of all of the Witch Hunts, including the Democrat-funded Carroll Hoax, which will continue to be appealed.”
The fact that the court allowed testimony from other women accusing Trump of misconduct has been deemed a clear violation of due process. This move seemed designed to prejudice the jury rather than seek justice.
Even more troubling is the court’s decision to dismiss concerns about Reid Hoffman, a well-known Democrat donor who funded Carroll’s case.
The court’s opinion read, “Taking the record as a whole and considering the strength of Ms. Carroll’s case, we are not persuaded that any claimed error or combination of errors in the district court’s evidentiary rulings affected Mr. Trump’s substantial rights.”
In addition to this setback, Trump continues to battle similar accusations, including another $83 million defamation judgment from the Carrol case.
In the meantime, Trump’s legal team is expected to consider another appeal to the Supreme Court.
