During a NewsNation interview with Chris Cuomo, the former chief strategist confirmed he is “working on” strategies to extend President Trump’s leadership beyond current term limits.
The bombshell announcement signals growing momentum for constitutional reform among MAGA supporters.
Bannon made his startling revelation when asked about his own presidential ambitions for 2028.
“No, no, no. Donald Trump 2028,” Bannon told Cuomo without hesitation, adding, “We’re working on it,” when pressed about the constitutional barriers.
The former White House strategist immediately dismissed any personal political aspirations despite a recent CPAC straw poll showing 12% support for him as the 2028 Republican nominee.
Bannon emphasized his unwavering loyalty to the president, stating he has “already endorsed President Trump” for any future political endeavors.
Constitutional experts aligned with the political establishment have rushed to dismiss Bannon’s suggestion.
They have cited the 22nd Amendment, which states that “no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”
However, some others see potential legal pathways since President Trump’s terms were not consecutive – a distinction that could prove significant.
U.S. Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN) has already proposed amending the Constitution to allow presidents to serve a third term if their terms weren’t consecutive.

The process of amending the Constitution remains challenging as it requires a two-thirds majority in both houses of Congress and ratification by 38 states.
