Leading up to President Biden’s inauguration, Harris and her team were expressing their dismay over Vogue’s choice of photo for the cover of its magazine. In their book, “This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future,” Alexander Burns and Jonathan Martin, reporters for the New York Times, disclosed how the soon-to-be vice president was upset over Vogue’s image of choice. Harris felt the picture of her with tight pants and Converse shoes was disrespectful.
According to a report from Politico regarding the book, the future vice president claimed she felt ridiculed by Vogue’s choice of cover because it presented her in more casual clothes. She asked if they would do the same for other world leaders. When Harris’ team asked about the cover, Anna Wintour, Vogue’s editor, mentioned it helped give Harris a more approachable look. Tina Flournoy, the new chief of staff for Harris, brought the matter to Biden’s attention, relaying the message to a senior official, who asserted there were more pressing issues to deal with than the cover of a magazine.
