(AmericanProsperity.com) – The world of college swimming is a scene of controversy after transgender athlete Lia Thomas took home first place in the NCAA Division I Women’s Championship. Several Republicans have announced they feel the woman who placed second, Emma Weyant, is the actual winner of the race due to the biology of Thomas. Former Vice President Mike Pence has joined the growing list of GOP members claiming Weyant won, and the Left is losing it.

Young America’s Foundation (YAF) held an event at the University of Virginia in which Pence spoke to the audience. During his speech, the former vice president asserted the true winner of the controversial race was Weyant and not transgender athlete Thomas, whom the NCAA cleared after they took testosterone suppressors for a year. Another prominent Republican, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has also declared Weyant the winner.
Pence noted that “Women’s sports is a pathway toward achievement and excellence,” adding the need to defend them in the United States for the sake of women as a whole. The former vice president spoke about Biden’s belief that men have a God-given right to compete in women’s sports, to which he said there needs to be common sense, adding that there will be.
One student asked Pence if he planned to run for president in 2024, but the former vice president only told them he would keep everyone posted about his intentions.
