Lineman Dies While Trying To Restore Power During Winter Storm

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Weather experts predicted a very cold Christmas for much of the US. Winter Storm Elliot left many people without power and even killed some with its harsh subzero temperatures. One person died in the line of duty while working to restore power to freezing families.

Buckeye Rural Electric Cooperative (BREC), which provides power to nearly 19,000 people in Southern Ohio, posted on Facebook that one of its apprentice lineman working on the outage died due to a fatal electrical contact incident. The victim was 22-year-old Blake Rodgers, but the utility company didn’t offer details on what exactly occurred.

The cooperative mentioned the devastation the entire company felt losing one of its own. The BREC asked that members offer privacy and support for Rodgers’ family and his team as they go through this difficult time. The power company noted that it hired alternative crews to restore power to the region as its workers cope with the loss.

The Independent reported that at least 56 people have died as a result of Winter Storm Elliot. Temperatures have dipped as low as -50º F in many areas in North America stretching from the Great Lakes region all the way to places like Arizona.
