Only 31% of Americans now trust the media to report news accurately and fairly, exposing a confidence crisis.
Gallup’s 2024 findings paint a grim picture of the media landscape, with trust plummeting across all demographics.
The survey shows that more Americans (36-39%) have absolutely no trust in the media compared to those who have a great deal or fair amount of trust.

While local and state governments still enjoy relatively high trust levels at 67% and 55%, the federal government is faring poorly.
The legislative branch and the media sit at the bottom of the trust barrel, with only 34% of Americans expressing confidence in Congress.
This widespread institutional distrust poses a significant threat to the fabric of American democracy.
As faith in core institutions crumbles, the ability to govern effectively and maintain social cohesion becomes increasingly challenging.
The media’s trust deficit can be traced back to a series of high-profile missteps and perceived biases.
