Manchin Says No To Leaving the Party

( – Democrats were likely enjoying the major win in Georgia after Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) beat out his conservative competitor, Herschel Walker. In any case, the joy was short lived as Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) announced she was leaving the Democrat party. Now, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) is assuring his colleagues and constituents he has no intention of doing the same.

After Sinema’s big announcement the attention turned to Manchin, who is also one of the most centrist Democrats in the party, to see if he had similar plans in mind. However, the West Virginia lawmaker asserted he didn’t have any plans of leaving his party — at least for now.

Manchin didn’t say whether or not he might change his mind in the future and declared he looks forward to working with Sinema as he always has. The West Virginia Senator expressed his respect for the Arizona lawmaker’s decision to become an independent. Both Manchin and Sinema have been a pain for their party, as they have often been the deciding votes on whether pieces of Biden’s agenda would pass.

Concern surrounding Manchin potentially leaving the Democrat party is well deserved. The West Virginia Senator has previously mentioned possibly switching to become an independent. Manchin is apparently comfortable remaining in the Democratic party as a moderate, where his vote will still hold significant influence on whether or not certain bills pass.
