Climate Change Activist Zuckerberg Pollutes More Than the Average American
(AmericanProsperity.com) – There are many people in the world who expect others to take certain actions while not following suit themselves. Among the most hypocritical are those who attempt to use their celebrity status to advance certain agendas. Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder of Facebook, is one of many climate change activists who don’t practice what they preach. The recent discovery of the entrepreneur’s carbon footprint serves as proof.
Climate Activism
Zuckerberg has been a major advocate of tackling climate change, frequently donating money to organizations attempting to fight the issue. The Facebook CEO has also implemented programming on the social media site to combat misinformation surrounding climate change. He has mentioned how important solving the global warming crisis is for future generations.
In 2017, Zuckerberg asserted it was time to get millions of people involved in the manufacturing of solar panels and getting them installed. Four years later in 2021, the Facebook/Meta founder claimed one of the reasons he was committed to the advancement of virtual reality was because he believed it would be better for the planet and society as a whole, allowing people to meet from anywhere in the world without having to travel in cars or on planes.
Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, created the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which has donated tens of millions of dollars to climate change organizations. Earlier in 2022, the joint initiative contributed $44 million to the research and development of technology that’s supposed to be able to clean the air by removing carbon emissions.
Massive Carbon Footprint
While Zuckerberg talks about reducing the amount of carbon emissions in the air, he has done little to help the issue aside from donating millions of dollars. In fact, a programmer by the name of Jack Sweeney recently compiled data from ADS-B Exchange, a flight tracking software, and found that the Facebook CEO’s Gulfstream G650, a private jet, burned through nearly $160,000 worth of fuel in just two months.
Between August 20 and October 15, Zuckerberg took a total of 28 trips on his private jet, which his team said was for security purposes. As he traveled across the country, his jet emitted more than 253 metric tons of carbon. That’s a lot of emissions.
The Nature Conservancy claims the average carbon output for a person in the US is 16 tons annually, compared to the global average of four tons. Taking all of the data into consideration, Zuckerberg emitted, in just two months, 15 times more carbon than the average American and over 63 times more than the average person globally does in a year. Not very climate friendly.
