Mine-Hunting Jack Russel Receives Medal for Saving Hundreds of Ukrainian Lives

Zelenskyy Recognizes Ukraine’s Top Land Mine Hunter

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Dogs have become a crucial part of military and law enforcement groups around the world. Most recently, a Jack Russel terrier has been especially busy. The dog, named Patron, received a medal from the President of Ukraine to commemorate his bravery and the lives he’s saved.

The Washington Post reported that despite the conflict starting less than three months ago, more than 600 deminers have located 54,000 pieces of Russian ordinance that haven’t gone off, including 2,000 missiles. That means even with Russian forces not in the area, the people of Ukraine are still in grave danger. Of the more than 600 deminers is Patron, who has found over 200 explosives since Russia first began its invasion.

The 2-year-old Patron, whose name means cartridge, received the Medal for Military Service on May 8. Daily Mail stated the proud pooch wagged his tail as President Zelenskyy awarded him the medal in the company of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Myhailo Iliev, Patron’s owner, also received the Medal for Military Service.

Without the help of this Jack Russell terrier, it’s hard to say how many Ukrainian civilians or forces would’ve become victims of exploding landmines. The mines are especially dangerous because they don’t differentiate between a uniformed soldier and a curious three-year-old.
