The 84-year-old former Speaker of the House required an emergency hip replacement surgery in Germany after tripping and falling on marble stairs at the Grand Ducal Palace in Luxembourg.
Pelosi, one of the oldest members of Congress, was injured in an accident during an event commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.
The fall resulted in a fractured hip, which required her to get surgery at a U.S. military hospital in Germany.
The use of military medical facilities for a member of Congress has raised concerns about preferential treatment.
While U.S. troops wait for care, Pelosi received quick attention at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a facility primarily intended to serve active-duty personnel and their families.
Pelosi’s spokesman Ian Krager said, “Speaker Pelosi is grateful to U.S. military staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center and medical staff at Hospital Kirchberg for their excellent care and kindness.”
“Speaker Pelosi is enjoying the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and well wishes and is ever determined to ensure access to quality health care for all Americans,” Krager added.
While Pelosi was ousted from her role as House Speaker in 2022, she was re-elected in November to serve through 2026.
She has not announced plans for another term, leaving voters to wonder if she intends to continue her decades-long grip on power well into her late 80s.
The cost of Pelosi’s medical care and emergency transport has not been disclosed, leaving taxpayers in the dark about the true price of these congressional delegations.
