(AmericanProsperity.com) – A new, deadlier strain of Mpox, called Clade 1b was discovered outside of Africa, where the virus was originally contained.
Four countries have reported mpox cases outside of Africa: Thailand, Sweden, the Philippines, and Pakistan. Thailand was the most recent confirmation with their first case being confirmed last week. They will now secure their screening measures and surveillance for international airports as a result.
Travelers who come from countries with an mpox outbreak will have to register at the health ministry’s online platform before they are able to go to Thailand. They will also have to do a health screening when arriving in the country and anyone with symptoms will be quarantined.
Singapore has been doing temperature and visual screenings for inbound travelers and people arriving from flights to certain airports. Travelers who have a fever, rash, or other symptoms will be referred for a medical evaluation. There are currently no direct flights between Singapore and any country with an mpox outbreak.
The Korean Disease Control Agency in South Korea has stated that mpox is a quarantinable disease; inbound travelers from eight African countries will need to report to quarantine officials if they exhibit any mpox symptoms. Flights gates at airports will also have epidemiologists and public health doctors.
Indonesia has installed thermal scanners for international arriving flights. Philippines and Malaysia have also rolled out preventative measures at its airports. Those that arrive in Malaysia will have to monitor their health for twenty-one days after arriving in the country.
Countries across the globe are preparing for mpox and taking precautions to ensure that their countries are staying safe. Airports are a major factor in this and many of those international arrivals will have health checks.
