Nikki Haley Hints Support For Trump Pardon If He’s Convicted

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Former South Carolina Governor and GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley said on June 12 she agrees with pardoning former President Donald Trump.

During a radio show appearance, Haley said it would be the proper step to pardon him if he’s finally convicted in the classified documents investigation. She told hosts Buck Sexton and Clay Travis this is “less about guilt” and more about what’s good for the United States as a nation.

These remarks were not surprising as Haley previously defended Trump after the Department of Justice announced a 37-count indictment against the former president.  At that moment, the former United States Ambassador to the United Nations said these charges could be described as “vendetta politics.” However, she said that if the contents of this indictment are true, the former president could be considered “incredibly reckless.”

Haley also told Sexton and Travis this current situation is problematic and dangerous. She explained that imprisoning such an important political leader, who is also a former president and presidential candidate, would be “terrible” for the nation. She added that the issue of pardoning a political figure has more to do with what’s good for a country rather than the person’s guilt or innocence. Haley also said that the possibility of watching a former president in prison for a documents’ case is something that you would see in a “third-world country.”

When talking about the Department of Justice’s responsibility on this matter, she said this agency handled this case “terribly.” Haley told Travis and Sexton it was deeply wrong to have one standard for Democratic leaders and a different one for Republicans. She cited the cases of President Joe Biden and former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Finally, Haley said that even when she and Trump are rivals for the GOP nomination, she had a great relationship with him during his presidency.
