(AmericanProsperity.com) – Democrats have been hoping to pass their radical election reform bill, named For the People Act, for some time. After Progressives in the party failed to garner enough support for HR1, some, including House Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), threw quite a fit.
On Tuesday, June 23, the US Senate voted 50-50 along party lines, to pass the bill. The GOP used the filibuster rule to block any debate of the bill and ensure Vice President Kamala Harris could not break the tie. This stalled the election “reform” bill for now. After the vote, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted the following:
Call me radical, but I do not believe a minority of Senators should be able to block voting rights for millions of people.
But I guess I’m just from that far-left school of thought that legislation should pass when a majority of legislators vote for it https://t.co/NTtk28BwRs

Perhaps AOC has never heard about the tyranny of the majority or forgot that our nation’s Founding Fathers built our government to protect the minority from the majority running the government and laws without their say. Of course, it seems AOC also might need a friendly reminder that 50 senators is not technically a majority when there are 100 total votes. Thankfully, the GOP took a hard stand against this bill that would make it easier to use mail-in ballots and loosen voter ID laws.
This situation showed Americans how critical a filibuster can be, as bipartisan agreements are vital to establishing long-lasting and helpful laws in any arena but especially when it comes to voting rights.
