(AmericanProsperity.com) – Wisconsin’s election integrity is under threat as the state’s Elections Commission proposes guidance to allow noncitizen IDs for voting.
The Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) is set to clarify the use of noncitizen IDs at the polls, a move that has sparked outrage among election integrity advocates.
House Administration Committee chairman Rep. Bryan Steil has demanded answers from the WEC, urging them to clarify whether Limited-Term and Non-Domiciliated IDs can be used for voter registration.
The proposed guidance suggests that temporary visitor IDs, which are often issued to noncitizens, can be used to vote.
This alarming development raises serious concerns about potential voter fraud, especially in a critical battleground state like Wisconsin.
While Wisconsin law allows these IDs as voter identification, having such an ID does not guarantee voting eligibility.
Republicans are sounding the alarm and seeking Department of Transportation citizenship data to identify and remove noncitizens from voter rolls.
However, Democrat Governor Tony Evers is stonewalling their efforts as he vetoed a Republican-led bill to mark noncitizen IDs as “not valid for voting.”
This obstruction raises questions about whether the Democrats seek to protect potentially fraudulent votes.
The WEC’s proposed guidance complicates the matter further as it includes a challenge process for IDs.
This process requires election inspectors to verify citizenship through an oath. This means that they rely on an honor system that those wanting to commit voter fraud could easily exploit.
Critics argue that focusing on noncitizen voting may create fear and distrust in the electoral process.
However, with around 135,000 noncitizen IDs currently issued in Wisconsin, the potential for abuse cannot be ignored.
While Democrats and their allies claim that noncitizen voting is rare, Republicans argue that even a small number of fraudulent votes could sway an election in a closely contested state like Wisconsin.
