The information that was accessed included addresses, full names, phone numbers, employers, social security numbers, and employee IDs, just to name a few of the types of compromised data.
HealthEquity has confirmed that they experienced a data breach that affected over four million Americans. They became aware of this at the end of March, and the investigation continued until the beginning of June.
The breach notice said, “We discovered some unauthorized access to and potential disclosure of protected health information and/or personally identifiable information stored in an unstructured data repository outside our core systems. On June 26, 2024, after validating the data, we unfortunately determined that some of your personal information was involved.”
Announcements to those who are affected are still being released and are ongoing. The company said that they will be notified by mail or email based on their account preferences.
HealthEquity continued to say that they have not reported or known of any attempt to misuse any of the information that was stolen. They have been enacting important measures to report this attack as well as to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
They’ve been securing the affected data and disabled all potentially compromised vendor accounts. They have also implemented a global password reset for the impacted vendor.
