Pelosi May Keep Her Power For a Little Bit Longer
(AmericanProsperity.com) – Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), like many Democrats, was preparing for a different life after the midterms. Experts and analysts predicted the GOP would take an overwhelming majority in a red wave. That wave failed to materialize, and now Pelosi could remain in power for the time being. Still, the Speaker’s future remains uncertain.

During an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, the Speaker talked about the attack on her husband and declared it would certainly influence her next decision. Will she retire? Maybe she’ll stay to command a smaller Democratic caucus, or perhaps her party will retain a majority, and she’ll have the option to run for Speaker again.
Mark Penn, once an advisor to former President Bill Clinton, told Fox News Digital he believes if Republicans take the House Majority, which at this point would only be a modest one, Pelosi is likely to make her exit. On the other hand, if Democrats hold on to their majority, he believes she may remain in politics and possibly retain the Speaker position.
James Wallner, a senior governance fellow at R Street Institute, expressed that if Pelosi did vie for Speaker again, she would face tough competition as her party pushes for change. There are several Democrats eyeing her position such as Representatives Pramilla Jayapal (D-WA), Pete Aguilar (D-CA), and Katherine Clark (D-MA) among numerous others. Kevin Walling, a Democratic strategist, believes if Pelosi’s party holds out, she has a good chance at becoming the Speaker again.
Pelosi’s future may come down to whichever party controls the lower chamber of Congress. If Democrats retain control, she could possibly seek another term as Speaker. Meanwhile, if Republicans win, her chances of retiring are likely to grow exponentially.
