(AmercianProsperity.com) – Former US Vice President Mike Pence criticized President Joe Biden and his administration on Thursday over the current crisis at the Mexican border. The Republican leader said that Title 42’s pending expiration means that the United States will face massive chaos in less than expected.
During a Fox News interview, Pence said that President Biden’s immigration policies have led to a “stampede” from South America and Central America as a direct result. He added that the White House has a direct responsibility in this situation as it failed to continue the construction of the southern wall that began under the Trump administration, as well as the “Remain in Mexico” policy and Title 42.
Earlier this week, the White House announced it was planning to deploy 1,500 troops to the Mexican border for the next three months to collaborate in tasks such as warehouse support and detection and monitoring ahead of the end of the Title 42 policy. What surprised many analysts was that the Biden administration also pointed out these troops won’t be conducting any law enforcement responsibility.
As reported by different media outlets, this Title is a pandemic-era policy that permits the United States to expel migrants at the border in a faster manner, blocking them from seeking asylum in the country. This policy will expire on May 11th, along with the declaration of a COVID-19 public health emergency.
Over the last few months, illegal immigration has hit record highs, with Biden administration officials reporting nearly 200,000 migrants at the Mexican border back in March. Some officials have told different media outlets on condition of anonymity they expect this number to dramatically increase when Title 42 ends.
Finally, the former Vice President said on Fox News that the White House shouldn’t allow this policy to end, pointing out that the number of troops that President Biden plans to send to the Mexican border won’t be enough.
