(AmericanProsperity.com) – The fall from grace is staggering when a supposed protector becomes a predator of public trust: former Sheriff Jamey Noel will now trade his badge for a prison uniform.
The once-prominent Republican figure has been sentenced to 15 years behind bars after pleading guilty to 27 felony charges.
Noel, who served as Clark County Sheriff from 2015 to 2022, admitted to misusing millions in taxpayer dollars from fire and EMS departments for personal luxury purchases.
His extravagant spending included splurging on fancy cars, vacations and even visits to Hooters, all at the expense of hardworking American taxpayers.
The depth of Noel’s corruption is staggering. He faces charges of theft, money laundering, corrupt business influence, official misconduct, obstruction of justice and tax evasion.
This laundry list of crimes paints a picture of a man who abused his position of power for personal gain, with no regard for the community he swore to protect and serve.
The consequences of Noel’s actions extend far beyond his personal downfall.
By mismanaging emergency resources that directly impacted public safety, he potentially cost lives.
Roger Montgomery Jr., a former first responder who worked under Noel, revealed the dangerous conditions created by the corrupt sheriff’s leadership.
“As firefighters, first responders and public servants, we take a higher oath. We are held to a higher standard of integrity,” said Montgomery.
“He did so knowingly and willingly for personal gain, and that personal gain was put ahead of patients and the lives of the people that worked for him,” he added.
As part of his plea deal, Noel has agreed to pay back over $3.1 million in public funds and faces a $270,000 fine.
However, this financial restitution barely scratches the surface of the damage done to the community’s trust and safety.
The total amount Noel and his family owe is estimated at a staggering $4.4 million, not including an additional $918,000 identified in a state audit.
Special Judge Larry Medlock pulled no punches words when addressing Noel’s actions during sentencing.
“You’ve tarnished the badge and failed everyone in law enforcement,” Medlock declared while saying he would impose an even harsher sentence if not for concerns about potential appeals.
Additionally, Governor Eric Holcomb firmly shot down the possibility of pardoning Noel during his administration.
Meanwhile, Noel’s eligibility for public pensions remains in question, raising further concerns about the consequences of his actions.
