Now, over a year later, hundreds of those supporters are facing legal consequences. One of the first to storm the Capitol also allegedly wanted to physically harm Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

A Federal prosecutor claims Guy Reffitt, a man from Texas, was one of the hundreds of protestors to riot on Capitol Hill. Reffitt faces several charges, including carrying a handgun while on Capitol grounds but has pleaded not guilty to all of them. Jeffrey Nestler, the prosecuting attorney, asserted Reffitt was the tip of the spear for the mob’s push to breach the Capitol, overwhelming police along the way.
According to Nestler, Reffitt messaged a friend to share his desire to drag Pelosi and other left-leaning politicians from the building. One message expressed his hope that Pelosi would hit her head on every stair out of the Capitol building.
Reffitt’s defense lawyer addressed jurors, noting that his client is prone to exaggeration and ranting before asserting the case would come down to what is fact and hype. Nevertheless, the defendant’s case is vital for the Department of Justice as a guilty verdict may encourage others to take plea deals, just as hundreds already have. Alternatively, a ruling in Reffitt’s favor could cause the remaining defendants to seek trial by their peers.
