Putin Criticizes US Political System, Citing Trump’s Prosecution

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said on September 12 that the criminal cases against GOP presidential candidate and former US President Donald Trump were a political revenge. The Russian leader also said this situation highlights the fundamental “corruption” that the United States is experiencing right now.

During an Eastern Economic Forum summit in the Russian city of Vladivostok, Putin told reporters that Trump was being politically persecuted. He also noted he believes what is happening in the United States “is good” because it reveals the American political system’s “rottenness.” Putin added that, given this situation, Washington is in no position to lecture other nations around the world about democracy.

When asked about Trump’s case, the Russian president said that everything that is happening to the Republican leader can be seen as the “persecution” of US President Joe Biden’s main political rival. He noted this is happening for numerous political reasons and in front of all Americans and the entire world.

According to different polls, the former president remains as the most popular candidate in the Republican Party and the favorite to win the nomination in 2024. Despite his legal issues, Trump’s popularity remains intact, and some surveys even say he could beat President Biden in what could be a rematch of the 2020 presidential election.

During his administration, Trump was criticized because of his good relations with Putin and the Russian regime. Critics claimed he was too submissive with Putin, while backers point out the Kremlin was weaker during Trump’s four years in the White House than it was during the Obama administration.

Over the last few months, Trump has claimed he could solve the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine in a couple of days if he becomes president again. About these remarks, Putin told reporters this is “good” and could only bring “happiness” to all parties involved. However, he said Moscow’s poor relations with Washington would hardly change, even if Trump wins the election.
