Record Number Of Weapons Taken By TSA Officials

(AmericanProsperity.com) – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reported their officers confiscated over 5,500 firearms at security checkpoints in 2021. During an interview, TSA spokesman Daniel D. Velez said that gun confiscation hit record-high numbers; at least 85% of confiscated firearms were loaded.

When asked about the sudden spike in confiscations, Velez pointed to data showing increased gun purchases across America. For example, the National Shooting Sports Foundation analyzed Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) background checks and concluded that gun sales jumped 34% over their analysis conducted in 2016.

Previous TSA records placed gun confiscations at 4,239 in 2019. That’s approximately 21 million guns purchased between 2016 and 2021.

The TSA confiscates at least 11 firearms per million passengers processed. Atlanta International Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport (Houston), and Phoenix’s Sky Harbor International Airport seize the highest number of weapons of all locations on US soil.

While TSA regulations allow passengers to travel with unloaded firearms, they must follow safety travel guidelines. For example, the weapon must be locked and secured in a hard-sided case and checked in as baggage. TSA says anyone caught with a loaded or unloaded firearm in their luggage or on their person will have their gun taken, face steep fines up to $10,000, and be referred to law enforcement for further investigation.
