Report Details Secret Service Failures During Assassination Attempt

(AmericanProsperity.com) – A Senate report has identified planning, security, and communication failures in the United States Secret Service’s efforts during Donald Trump’s rally. It’s said that these failures and mistakes “directly contributed to” the assassination attempt against him.

The report, which spanned over ninety pages, cited almost six main issues, including poor coordination with local law enforcement, lack of chain of command, and inadequate resources and equipment. It’s also said that they didn’t properly secure the site and failed to ensure the safety of the former president during his Butler, Pennsylvania rally.

The findings in the report were part of a joint investigation with the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee and the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

Chairman Gary Peters said, “Every single one of these actions is directly related to a failure in the U.S. Secret Service’s planning, communications, intelligence sharing and law enforcement coordination efforts.”

“Every single one of those failures was preventable, and the consequences of those failures were dire,” he continued.

Thomas Crooks, the gunman in question, was able to fire eight rounds with a semiautomatic rifle off the roof of an adjacent building before he was killed by a counter sniper.

The report says that many Secret Service officials had chronic problems with their radios. In one case, a Secret Service countersniper was offered a local radio to help, but he was unable to pick it up because he was working on “fixing” his own Secret Service radio.

A text message sent by a Secret Service employee to a supervisor said, “I’m not getting good comms on either my phone or radio. I’ll try to stay on.” This message was sent about an hour before the shooting happened.

The report also said that there was a Secret Service personnel that was notified about a suspicious person with a rangefinder less than thirty minutes before the shooting. However, the lead Service agent and other officials said that they did not receive this information.
