(AmericanProsperity.com) – Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. blasted President Joe Biden on July 2 for keeping secrecy on records related to the assassination of former president John F. Kennedy. On Twitter, the liberal leader criticized President Biden’s “midnight announcement,” claiming that declassifying these records “is about transparency.”
The presidential candidate seemed to be referencing a White House June 30 memorandum sent to executive-branch agencies and departments. The document noted that the release of these records must be delayed as these could harm not only intelligence and military operations but also foreign relations. It added that even when there’s a public interest in knowing more details about JFK’s assassination, the information needs to remain secret to protect these areas.
In his Twitter post, Kennedy said that the claim that releasing these records could do some harm makes no sense. He explained it’s absurd to make this argument that the Biden administration would be only releasing information about an incident that happened “60 years ago.” He also asked what “national security secrets” could be at risk, and suggested the White House was hiding something.
The presidential candidate also wrote on his Twitter account that this announcement was “unlawful.” Kennedy noted that the 1992 JFK Records Act passed unanimously and even promised that the records would be released in October 2017. He then blamed President Biden and his administration for breaking the promise “once again.”
In a separate tweet, Kennedy suggested he would declassify these records and release them to the public in case he wins the nomination and the presidential election. He said this was a crucial step to take since the Biden administration has reduced people’s trust in government, pointing out this was at an “all-time low.”
Finally, the presidential candidate explained that releasing these records is not only a matter of letting all Americans know the truth about the JFK assassination. He said this will also be a good strategy to regain trust in the government.
