DeSantis Wants AntiTrust Against Apple
(AmericanProsperity.com) – Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and the new owner of Twitter, has recently gotten into a dispute with Apple. The Tesla CEO alleged the iPhone manufacturer threatened to remove Twitter from its App Store. The conservative governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, came to Musk’s defense, urging Congress to be ready to act.
Defensive DeSantis
The governor jumped to defend Musk just hours after the Tesla CEO tweeted about the issues his company was experiencing with Apple. DeSantis asserted he believed it would be a major mistake for Apple to remove Twitter in response to Musk reinstating thousands of accounts, including former President Donald Trump’s. The governor declared such a move should concern Congress and prompt members to respond.
DeSantis told Apple to not be a subordinate to China in one instance and then use its power in the US to suppress and suffocate the rights Americans have to express themselves. The Republican mentioned he’s happy about the changes that are taking place at Twitter, admitting there was still a lot of work ahead before noting Musk’s moves were a major step in the right direction. The governor reiterated his position on the matter during an appearance on Fox News as he sat down with Tucker Carlson.
DeSantis asserted the need for Congress to look at antitrust laws in regard to massive companies like Apple. The Republican explained they have a significant amount of influence over American society and have no problem using it. Apple has already come under the GOP’s scrutiny.
Tim Cook, the tech company’s CEO, met with top Republican lawmakers like Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) and Representatives Jim Jordan (R-OH), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), and Darrell Issa (R-CA) regarding antitrust laws. According to the New York Post, insiders have disclosed the legislators intend to investigate Cook over other issues, most notably Apple’s discreet support of the Chinese Communist Party, and help it suppress ongoing protests.
Mutual Support
The governor’s recent support of the new Twitter owner comes after Musk has expressed support for the Florida Republican. The Tesla CEO noted in a series of tweets that he would prefer someone who has a centrist mindset and is sensible to be President of the United States.
Musk admitted he thought that Joe Biden was that person but has since realized he was wrong. A user asked the Twitter CEO if he would back DeSantis if he decided to run for the Oval Office, to which the billionaire replied with a simple “yes.” The Tesla CEO has seemingly executed an about-face in regard to political parties. After voting blue in 2020, the new owner of Twitter is urging people to vote red.
Citizens are still waiting on whether or not the Florida governor decides to run. So far, he hasn’t mentioned any intention of doing so.
