(AmericanProsperity.com) – A prestigious private school in Los Angeles, California, has taken the extreme step of expelling a 10-year-old boy for the wildest of reasons.
Although the expelled fifth-grader is a straight-A student with no prior disciplinary issues, he found himself at the center of a controversy after exchanging emails with a classmate that included rap lyrics from YNW Melly’s “Murder on My Mind” and a squirt gun emoji.
Led by Head of School Meera Ratnesar, the Curtis School’s administration swiftly moved to expel the child without proper due process, claiming it was necessary to maintain a “safe and secure environment.”
This heavy-handed response has raised serious questions about the school’s priorities and judgment.
Known for its celebrity students and an eye-watering $28,760 annual tuition, the Curtis School seems more concerned with policing harmless emoji usage than providing a quality education.
The lawsuit filed by the boy’s parents in Los Angeles Superior Court argues that the expulsion was “arbitrary and capricious” and lacked any evidence of a genuine policy violation or threat.
Additionally, the school’s actions appear to be discriminatory as the classmate who initiated the email exchange faced no disciplinary action whatsoever.
Even more disturbing, the expelled student was not shown the specific emails during a meeting with school officials before being expelled, denying him the opportunity to defend himself.
A spokesperson for the Curtis School said in a statement, “While we were disappointed to learn about the litigation, our priority is to ensure a safe and secure campus for all of our students.”
“We are deeply disappointed by your decision to base expulsion on emails between two classmates who both showed a willingness to talk about guns based on a song’s lyrics,” the expelled kid’s parents said.
The parents’ lawsuit seeks to reverse the expulsion and have the school cover their legal fees.
