(AmericanProsperity.com) – Before tanks, guns, and even bows, people fought with swords. Of course, that was a long time ago, and now most people just collect the bladed weapons. Their rare usage didn’t stop one man from attacking special forces with one. Apparently, the US military needs to add sword combat and defense to their training regimen.
On September 18, just after 1:00 a.m., a staff sergeant was out smoking a cigarette when a man approached him. The man, dressed in full ninja-yoroi, asked the sergeant if he knew who he was. When the sergeant said he didn’t, the “ninja” then asked if he knew where his family was, and the situation took a turn for the worst.

The man began slashing at the sergeant with a katana, a sword Samurai used. The “ninja” hit the soldier in his leg and struck his phone before the sergeant jumped a fence and ran to a building for safety.
The man, identified later as Gino Rivera, 35, also threw a rock through the window of a hangar, injuring a second person. Both victims are part of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR). According to SOAR, the personnel was at the base in the middle of a California desert for training exercises. Police managed to arrest the assailant after a brief altercation.
Rivera faces charges of attempted homicide, brandishing a weapon, vandalism, assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a weapon with intent to resist arrest, and obstructing a police officer from performing their duty. Both soldiers who sustained injuries required stitches but were cleared fit for duty.
