Survivors of Climate Disasters Push into Big Oil’s Climate Crimes

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Survivors of climate disasters push for big oil industries to make changes against their climate crimes.

Allen Myers grew up in Paradise, California where he later saw his childhood home burned to the ground due to a devastating Camp fire that killed eighty-five people. He is one of the survivors that is pushing for the fossil fuel industry to be held accountable for their role in the fire, as well as other natural climate disasters.

Myers and one thousand survivors of climate disasters signed a letter that was delivered to the U.S. Department of Justice demanding that they launch a federal investigation into the fossil fuel industry.

Said Myers, “The Campfire bore the fingerprints of the climate crisis.” He continued “The fossil fuel industry knows that what they’re doing is dangerous, and we have millions of people, not only in this country, but around the world, that are feeling the effects of the climate crisis.”

The Chesapeake Climate Action Network and a consumer advocacy group called Public Citizen wrote and organized the letter.

It read, “We have survived hurricanes, floods, extreme heat, fires and other hazards impacting our lives more frequently and with greater intensity due to climate change…While our stories and experiences are diverse, the fossil fuel industry’s misconduct is a consistent through-line.”

This was also signed by nine thousand Americans whose loved ones have survived climate disasters, and they cited evidence that big oil has known for decades that they are causing climate effects with their products.

The letter said, “Instead of acting responsibly on their own scientists’ warnings, they waged a decades-long disinformation campaign to muddy the science and confuse and mislead the public.”
