Teacher FORCED To Lie To Parents
(AmericanProsperity.com) – A school in Kansas forced a teacher to be untruthful toward a certain student’s parents about their transitioning. The institution had already punished the educator for refusing to refer to the pupil by their preferred pronoun. Now, that same teacher has fought back and won, earning a nice settlement.
Fort Riley Middle School has a policy that requires teachers to use a student’s preferred name when talking to them. Yet educators must use pupils’ legal names when speaking with their parents. Officials attempted to coerce Pamela Ricard, 58, to adhere to the policy. The former math teacher asserted it went against her conscience to do so, resulting in legal action.

Attorneys with the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) represented Ricard in her lawsuit and claimed her win was a “victory for free speech.” ADF Center for Academic Freedom director Senior Counsel Tyson Langhofer asserted that no school system should force educators to violate their conscience. He said he hopes the ruling will encourage other educational districts to refrain from committing acts that violate teachers’ rights.
In 2021, school officials suspended Ricard after reprimanding her for referring to a student using their biological sex and legal name. In addition to paying a $95,000 settlement, the institution agreed to clear Ricard’s name and certify she was in good standing and didn’t have any disciplinary marks against her at the time of her retirement.
