Tim Waltz’s $250M State Program Fraudulently Spent

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Minnesota Governor Tim Waltz is facing scrutiny for a two hundred and fifty million dollar COVID-19 fraud scandal.

Over the last two years, seventy people have been charged in connection with the fraud scheme that ended in a quarter of a billion dollar loss from the Minnesota Department of Education Feeding Our Future Program. This program was a federally funded meal assistance program that gave free meals to children and adults who were eligible.

Billy Glahn, adjunct policy fellow with Minnesota-based Center of the American Experiment, said, “At least a quarter billion dollars was stolen by fraudsters.”

“The question, of course, came up: How did the state Department of Education let out two hundred and fifty million dollars out the door to people who were later convicted of defrauding the program? The legislative auditor took this on as one of her projects and did this report looking at how the department oversaw a single one of these nonprofits involved,” he continued.

A report was done about the scheme called “Minnesota Department of Education: Oversight of Feeding Our Future” which goes into detail about how MDE officials allegedly identified and stopped the fraud quickly, but OLA believes they could have done more.

The report stated, “MDE officials told us that the department began to have concerns about Feeding Our Future only after the start of the COVID pandemic. However, we think MDE failed to act on warning signs known to the department prior to the onset of the COVID pandemic and prior to the start of the alleged fraud.”

Critics have said that the scheme and the failure to catch it before millions were stolen leads right back to Governor Waltz. Many have said that he appointed all of the people in the DOE where the fraud took place, therefore he should be held responsible.

Fraud suspects spent the money on multiple luxury items such as residential property, vehicles, jewelry, cryptocurrency, restaurants, hotels, and airplane tickets, among other things.
