Henry has since apologized for his behavior, admitting that he made a “poor decision.”
According to reports, Mayor Henry attended a fundraising event at the Fort Wayne Civic Theater on the night of the incident. He allegedly drank too much and eventually got behind the wheel of a city-owned vehicle, driving away from the event with his wife and mother-in-law in the car.
At some point, Henry made contact with a woman driving down the road in the opposite direction. According to the crash report, she thought Henry was going to hit her head-on because he was driving erratically well into her lane. She recalled honking the horn and the mayor subsequently attempting to swerve away to avoid a collision. Henry’s vehicle side-swiped the woman’s car despite her efforts, causing an estimated $25,001-$50,000 in damage.
Authorities later arrested the mayor after discovering he had a blood alcohol content of 0.15%. That’s nearly double Indiana’s legal limit of 0.08%.
Thankfully, everyone involved was wearing a seatbelt at the time, and the crash didn’t result in any serious injuries.
Mayor Henry eventually took to Twitter to express his sorrow over causing the accident. He also apologized for behaving so recklessly while declaring his intention to take full responsibility for the transgression.
I want to apologize to the residents of Fort Wayne and my family for the poor decision I made to get behind the wheel of a vehicle after drinking at a local function. I accept full responsibility for my actions.

A local news source attempted to determine who would be paying for the damages, whether it would be the mayor or the taxpayers. Henry’s office reportedly said they didn’t have that information yet.
