Travelers Not Welcome

Travelers Not Welcome

( – New York City was the nation’s epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic a few months ago, throwing state Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) into the limelight via his daily briefings. However, as the cases of coronavirus drop in New York, many other states have rising case numbers. Because of this, Governor Cuomo now imposes strict quarantine mandates on some travelers.

As of Tuesday, July 14, people arriving from 22 designated hotspot states must complete a traveler health form and quarantine themselves for 14 days. Failure to follow this new order can lead to a $2,000 fine, a hearing, and a mandatory quarantine.

The mandatory health form contains personal information requests including:

  • name
  • date of birth
  • telephone number
  • gender
  • email
  • date of arrival
  • travel method
  • children’s names

The New York State Department of Health obtains all this information in order to track COVID-19 cases within the state.

Those exempt from this new travel advisory include essential workers and those in the state for less than 24 hours. Enforcement teams located at major airports will check phones or paperwork to confirm travelers properly filled out the form.

As states continue to grapple with how to deal with coronavirus, citizens must be wary about handing out personal information and giving up control over their lives.
