(AmericanProsperity.com) – The media has ramped up its narrative against President Donald Trump by snubbing him, breaking a 140-year tradition in the process.
Specifically, the elite Gridiron Club decided not to carry on with the customary toast of the sitting president at its annual dinner.
Instead, these establishment journalists decided to toast the First Amendment while excluding Trump administration representatives from speaking roles.
The Gridiron Club Dinner, a Washington tradition dating back to the 1880s, became a battleground in the ongoing war between the Trump administration and the mainstream media.
President Trump and Vice President JD Vance declined to attend the event where they would have faced a hostile audience of journalists who have consistently worked to undermine the America First agenda.
Gridiron Club president Judy Woodruff made the unprecedented announcement that there would be no toast to the president.
While breaking with nearly a century and a half of tradition, Woodruff raised her glass “to the First Amendment.”
The move was a thinly veiled criticism of President Trump’s efforts to hold the media accountable for their biased reporting.
The White House’s decision not to send an official representative to speak shows the administration’s growing frustration with media outlets that refuse to cover the president fairly.
Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner attended the dinner but did not speak on behalf of President Trump.
This was a clear sign that the administration is no longer willing to play along with media elites who show contempt for conservative values.
“Nobody went because either we were busy working or we just don’t care to be recognized by that crowd,” explained a Trump White House official.
The revelation shows how the administration prioritizes results for the American people over schmoozing with hostile journalists.
The tension at the dinner highlighted the stark contrast between President Trump’s current relationship with the press and his more cordial interactions in 2018 when he attended the Gridiron dinner during his first term.
Back then, President Trump even praised some journalists, calling them “incredible, brilliant, powerful, intelligent, and fair.”
The president said at the time:
“For all you do to support and sustain our democracy. I mean that. I mean that. Some incredible people in the press. Really, I don’t get to say it often. But you have some incredible, brilliant, powerful, smart, and fair people in the press. And I want to thank you.”
The media’s hostility comes as no surprise given the Trump administration’s recent moves to restore fairness in White House press coverage.
The president has taken steps to limit access to biased outlets like the Associated Press.
He has questioned the objectivity of mainstream networks like CBS and ABC, which have repeatedly spread misinformation about his administration.
The event, which featured comedic performances from Democrat Governor Wes Moore of Maryland and Republican Representative Lisa McClain of Michigan, maintained its bipartisan facade while clearly signaling its anti-Trump sentiment.
Moore even made jokes about Republican ties to Russia, prompting Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll to leave the dinner in protest.
As the White House Correspondents’ Dinner approaches next month, it remains to be seen whether President Trump will attend an event that has historically been used to mock and belittle conservative leaders.
