Trump Not Interested In Being House Speaker

(AmericanProsperity.com) – There’s been a lot of talk about nominating former President Donald Trump for the job of Speaker of the House if Republicans retake that chamber of Congress. In an interview with John Solomon and Amanda Head of “Just the News,” Trump squashed the chatter, showing no desire to take on the role. “It’s not something I’m interested in,” Trump said.

The talk began when Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) told a crowd in Georgia that when they give his party back control of Congress, they’re going to give Nancy Pelosi her walking papers; he said he would personally nominate Trump to be the next House speaker. Trump took the stage and said, “Well that was interesting,” before moving on with his rally, according to The Epoch Times.

The US Constitution leaves the nomination and selection of the Speaker of the House to the chamber’s members. Nothing in the document says the speaker has to be a current representative or even an elected official. If Republicans were to place Trump in the position, it would put him third in the line of succession to the White House.

The former chief executive has no desire to be third in line, however, and he never has. He may have called the idea interesting, but when questioned directly, he firmly shut it down.
