Trump on the Hot Seat in Georgia Grand Jury Investigation

( – Following his loss in 2020, former President Donald Trump seemingly did whatever he could to overturn the results of the election. As part of his effort, he allegedly contacted state officials and told them to find the necessary votes for him to win. The former president’s actions prompted an investigation from a grand jury in Georgia. The panel’s probe recently came to a conclusion.

According to The Hill, Judge Robert McBurney of the Fulton County Superior Court declared the grand jury had filed the final draft of its report. McBurney also ordered the panel to be dismantled. The news comes two years after Democratic District Attorney Fani Willis first launched her investigation. Judge McBurney scheduled a hearing for January 24 to decide whether or not the 26-member grand jury should make its report public.

In the early part of 2021, Willis launched an investigation into the actions of Trump and his allies to determine whether they actively attempted to interfere in Georgia’s election process. The DA’s probe came after the Washington Post released audio of the former president telling Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” more than 11,000 votes in order to overturn the Democrats’ victory in the Peach State.

With the grand jury concluding its investigation and dissolving, speculation has risen about potential charges. The panel doesn’t have the power to charge people, but it can recommend that Willis do so. Even then, the DA doesn’t have to follow the grand jury’s recommendations and could move ahead before the report is made public — or perhaps not at all.

The 26-member panel’s conclusion comes as Trump finds himself under fire from several other lawsuits. One of them was filed in New York, with Attorney General Letitia James examining his businesses and finances. The Department of Justice is also investigating the former president.

Trump and his allies have repeatedly denied doing anything wrong.
