Trump Seeks $850 Billion in Additional Stimulus

(AmericanProsperity.com) – The $100 billion package currently being pushed through Congress isn’t the only thing the Trump administration is proposing to help Americans. There are also talks for a separate, massive $850 billion economic stimulus package. On Monday, President Trump acknowledged that the economy may be headed for a recession due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Sometime on Tuesday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin was expected to huddle with Senate Republicans to discuss the possibility of helping Americans with direct cash. It could come in the form of a payroll tax cut holiday that Trump has been promoting or through another mechanism. An immediate check to every American adult is within the realm of possibility.

In addition to helping Americans financially through the crisis, the administration will also propose $50 billion to help the airline industry, which has been hit hard by imposed travel bans.

On Monday evening, Mnuchin told Republican Senate leaders he’d like the bills passed by the end of the week. That may be a tall order, though. The Senate is currently working on a FISA bill, and as of 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, they had still not received a final bill from the House on the initial $100 billion package.

After Monday evening’s meeting with Mnuchin, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said it’s time to do something big.

The future right now is uncertain, but the Trump administration is doing its best to alleviate concerns and ensure we make it through this pandemic.
