(AmericanProsperity.com) – Sparking a huge controversy, a Trump-supporting news anchor has been fired for the unlikeliest of reasons: expressing conservative views.
David Elliott’s firing highlights the growing threat to free speech in America’s current media landscape.
Elliott had served WLOX-TV in Biloxi for nearly 40 years before he was terminated after posting social media comments critical of Kamala Harris and her supporters.
Elliott announced his firing on Facebook, stating, “I’m no longer at Wlox as of 10-25-24. The corporation doesn’t like my political views.”
Known for his straightforward commentary, the seasoned anchor had recently posted a video on X (formerly Twitter).
In it, Elliot urged Harris supporters not to vote and criticized her candidacy in a state that leans heavily Republican.
WLOX’s decision to terminate Elliott appears to be a clear case of political discrimination.
Although Elliott insisted that his social media posts were satire and separate from his journalistic work, the network took the drastic step of ending his four-decade career over personal opinions expressed outside of his official duties.
Elliott’s posts, which he describes as controversial to engage audiences, touched on a sensitive nerve for the liberal media establishment.
In his video, he stated, “This is so unlike me because I’m usually a vote, vote, vote guy. I’d like to see 100% voter turnout, whether it’s for your local sheriff or the president of the United States.”
“But if your hatred for Donald Trump is so strong—that’s kind of a sickness by the way—but if it’s so strong that you’re planning to go in that voting booth and vote for Kamala Harris—do you listen to her?” he asked.
“Do you know anything about her? Anyway, do yourself, do the country, do the world a favor and just sit it out. Stay home. Don’t vote,” Elliott concluded.
Elliott’s social media accounts do not feature WLOX branding, and he uses them to reach a broader audience outside of his professional role.
This clear separation between his personal views and his work as a journalist makes his firing even more controversial.
This bias not only undermines the principles of journalistic integrity but also threatens the very foundation of democratic discourse.
