(AmericanProsperity.com) – Revealing his plans for when he retakes the White House, GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has vowed to dismantle taxpayer-funded billboards in Texas that inform illegals of their rights.
This bold move is part of Trump’s commitment to enforcing stricter immigration laws and putting America first.
The Department of Homeland Security’s Office of the Immigration Detention Ombudsman (OIDO) set up the controversial billboards to display messages like “Your brother in immigration custody has rights, we’re here to help.”
This misuse of taxpayer money to assist illegals has sparked outrage among border security officials and conservative lawmakers.
When addressing the issue, Trump stated, “Kamala [Harris] is now running billboards near the Border advertising FREE Legal Services for Illegal Alien Criminals. When I win, the billboards are coming down, and the Migrant Gangs are going home!”
The OIDO was established in 2019 and claims to promote “safe and humane conditions” in immigration detention.
However, critics argue that these billboards only serve to encourage illegal immigration and undermine efforts to secure the border.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) voiced his concerns about the implications of these billboards:
“The news that DHS is using taxpayer money to launch billboards advocating ‘rights’ for individuals in ‘immigration custody’ should be alarming because it’s a preview of the legal arguments that radical progressive democrats will use to argue against deportation of the millions dumped in America by Biden-Harris-Mayorkas.”
The controversy comes as immigration remains a top priority for voters in the 2024 election.
The Biden-Harris administration’s failures to address the border crisis, which began in 2021, have resulted in record-breaking numbers of illegal crossings and a strain on resources in border communities.
Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) criticized the misallocation of funds, stating, “Time and again, we’ve seen DHS put an open borders agenda ahead of its mission to safeguard American families.”
“Whether it’s FEMA splurging hundreds of millions of dollars on migrant housing or OIDO running ads like this, our government is hemorrhaging money on the wrong priorities. It’s time for Congress to pull the plug on programs like these,” he added.
While the Biden-Harris administration claims to have reduced encounters by 55% after a presidential order in June, critics point out that this decrease follows historic highs in previous years.
The damage has already been done, with millions of illegals flooding into the country during Joe Biden’s tenure and with Kamala Harris’ compliance.
