Specifically, the order directed Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to quickly implement measures to protect the armed forces’ readiness and effectiveness.
Secretary Hegseth issued a memorandum pausing the entry of new transgender recruits into the military and halting medical procedures for service members diagnosed with gender dysphoria.
This directive, effective immediately, aligns with President Trump’s vision to prioritize military readiness and combat effectiveness over social experimentation.
“Effective immediately, all new accessions for individuals with a history of gender dysphoria are paused. All unscheduled, scheduled or planned medical procedures associated with affirming or facilitating a gender transition for service members are paused,” the memorandum stated.

Although liberal organizations have claimed that tens of thousands are affected by the order, the Pentagon estimates that there are only 1,000 to 8,000 transgender-identifying service members.
As expected, LGBTQ+ advocacy groups are challenging the executive order in federal court, demonstrating their prioritization of identity politics over national security.
Still, Secretary Hegseth has assured that existing service members with gender dysphoria will be “treated with dignity and respect.”
