(AmericanProsperity.com) – The United States is considering putting sanctions on Chinese companies that they feel are helping Russia fuel its war in Ukraine.
Democratic Senator Gerald Connolly, who is a member of the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Relations said that lawmakers are considering plans after similar measures were proposed by the European Union. If these suggestions come into effect, it would be the first direct penalty against Beijing, regardless of the fact that there has been a conspiracy of China’s input into the Russian war.
“China has to understand that the same kinds of sanctions which are beginning to really take hold in Russia and are affecting Russian productivity, economic performance, and quality of life, can also be applied to China,” Connolly continued by saying, “And frankly, China has a lot more to lose than Russia.”
It’s said that these sanctions could help to at least push Beijing to stop helping Russia and to pull out their aid if that is in fact what they are doing.
“If broad sanctions were applied to China, it would really hit home. And their economic performance right now is already weak. So I would hope China would calculate carefully that there are consequences around the corner for supporting Russia’s violence and depravity in Ukraine,” Connolly added.
After the sanctions were suggested by the EU, United States Senator Ben Cardin said that Congress was looking into a similar option after finding out that the EU was pushing for this. However, they did say that they would need the support of other countries to make sure that the sanctions are enforced.
These sanctions are looking into China’s role in the Ukrainian-Russian war because there have been reports that China has been supplying military technology to Russia. According to a U.S. intelligence report, China’s role in Russia’s war has become increasingly more crucial “in its war effort, probably supplying Moscow with key technology and dual-use equipment used in Ukraine.”
