(AmericanProsperity.com) – The second attempted assassination on Donald Trump has election officials concerned for their lives as political violence continues.
These political threats can affect anyone from presidential candidates, judges, and even election officials. Violence has been a part of this political election for months now as many have reported violence and threats.
Shanna Bellows, Maine’s Secretary of State, had her home swatted after she disqualified Donald Trump from the presidential ballot last year. It was also reported that Justices on the Colorado Supreme Court faced death threats after trying to remove him as well.
Alvin Bragg, the attorney that prosecuted Donald Trump in the hush-money case received more than sixty threats targeted towards him, his family, and his office.
Election workers, who typically have no security, have faced significant threats. In Georgia, one county got fifty thousand dollars approved for panic buttons and approval on hiring security.
Robert Pape, a professor at the University of Chicago and lead on the Chicago project on security and threats, said, “All political leaders and presidential candidates should immediately condemn political violence, regardless of whether it comes from the Left or Right, rather than wait for a spiral of escalation to occur.”
A survey of more than nine hundred election officials showed that forty percent of them have improved security of election offices and polling places. Forty percent of them have also reported some sort of abuse, threats, or harassment.
