United States Expects to Screen 3 Million Air Travellers Over Coming Holiday

(AmericanProsperity.com) – The United States has set a new record when looking at the number of air travelers screened at airports in one singular day. The United States Transportation Security Administration screened just shy of three million people who were traveling by air this past weekend.

The TSA is expecting that number to surpass three million this weekend as we approach the Fourth of July and people begin traveling for vacations. They also said that in total they expect to screen over thirty million passengers from Thursday to Monday, which is a five percent increase from last year.

David Pekoske, the TSA Administrator, said, “We expect this summer to be our busiest ever, and summer travel usually peaks over the Independence Day holiday.”

He continued, “Compared to last year, we have cut our attrition rates by almost half and increased our recruiting as a result of the TSA Compensation Plan that was funded in the budget passed by Congress and signed into law by President Biden.”

So far this year, the TSA has recorded seven out of ten of the busiest days in history as travel continues to spike after the pandemic. The increase in air travel is also prominent as the summertime hits and people begin traveling for summer vacations, also taking into account that children are out of school.

“The traveling public is on the move, which is a sign of a healthy economy. We are ready, along with our airline and airport partners, to handle this boost in passenger volumes,” Pekoske said.
