(AmericanProsperity.com) – The United States is in the middle of a large COVID wave; COVID activity is the most it’s been in two years according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Currently, the COVID-19 wastewater viral activity level is very high nationally, with the highest levels in the Western US region,” said deputy director of the CDC’s Wastewater Surveillance Program Dr. Jonathan Yoder. “This year’s COVID-19 wave is coming earlier than last year, which occurred in late August/early September.”
Hospitalizations, emergency room visits, and deaths are all creeping up despite them not being at the heights they were in the beginning of the pandemic.
WastewaterSCAN Network stated that the data found from the wastewater the CDC examined is common among their data as well. “This is a very significant surge. The levels are very high. They’re the highest we’ve ever seen during a summer wave,” said program director from WastewaterSCAN Dr. Marlene Wolfe.
“Despite these changes, it’s notable that levels right now for WastewaterSCAN are much higher than previous summer peaks and yet still below the average concentrations at the height of the winter peaks,” said Dr. Alexandria Bohemia, another program director from WastewaterSCAN.
Experts have said that they’re unable to say exactly how many cases there are and that the amount of viral data from wastewater doesn’t directly correlate to how many people have COVID. They’re also not studying Coronavirus as closely as they were at the peak of the pandemic.
