US Forces Kill ISIS Leader in Syria

( – The US Central Command announced on Tuesday that a US strike killed a senior leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria. The terrorist was a key figure in the Jihadi organization, considering that he was responsible for numerous planned attacks in different nations across Europe.

In a statement, CENTCOM head General Erik Kurilla explained that the man who the US strike killed was Khalid Aydd Ahmad al-Jabouri, who was one of the most dangerous men in ISIS. The attack took place on Monday, in what has been considered a successful operation not only because the main target was properly eliminated but also because no innocent was hurt.

Kurilla added that the attack was “unilateral,” and pointed out that al-Jabouri was currently one of ISIS’ main men and key figures not only because of the numerous plans he had to execute terrorist attacks across Europe but also because he was developing an infrastructure in Turkey in order to revive ISIS’ power, which has been severely decreasing over the last few years after numerous hit received by US forces and its allies in the Middle East.

In addition, Kurilla explained in the statement that despite ISIS’ current weakness, the terrorist organization still represents a significant threat not only in the Middle East but also in the Western Hemisphere. He argued that the reason behind this reality is that ISIS is still able to conduct different types of terrorist operations in these regions because it has a good amount of equipment and personnel.

Despite this situation, Kurilla closed the statement by saying that al-Jabouri’s elimination is good news because it will temporarily halt the terrorist organization’s ability to plan any external attack in the short term. However, he said that ISIS will remain a threat that has to be taken care of.

The attack against al-Jabouri comes a week after the United States decided to conduct retaliatory airstrikes in Syria against Iran-backed militants. It also comes after a helicopter raid with Syrian Democratic Forces and American troops eliminated another ISIS senior leader named Hamza al-Homsi.
