(AmericanProsperity.com) – Texas Tech University’s campus erupted in chaos when an explosion at a substation triggered mysterious green flames shooting from manholes.
The unexpected incident forced immediate evacuations and the shutdown of the entire university.

The explosion occurred in the Engineering Key section of Texas Tech’s campus in Lubbock, creating a frightening scene as fire and smoke came out from multiple manhole covers.
What initially appeared to be a gas leak quickly revealed itself as a serious electrical system failure.
Firefighters discovered green flames shooting from underground access points, which suggests chemicals were possibly involved.
University officials responded by evacuating buildings in the affected area and ultimately shutting down power across the entire 1,800-acre campus that serves over 40,000 students.
The situation became so dire that Texas Tech declared an immediate start to spring break, effectively closing the university for the remainder of the week.
Doctoral student Robert Gauthreaux III witnessed the explosion firsthand, describing a smoke ring rising from the manholes.
Emergency responders flooded the campus as university police advised all unauthorized personnel to stay away.
Panic soon set in as students were forced to evacuate with little information about the nature of the emergency.
“You can go ahead and go home for spring break. We are closing school down for the next couple days,” said university police spokesperson Caitlynn Jeffries.
Lubbock Fire Rescue arrived to find “multiple manhole covers with active fire and smoke issuing from them,” according to Captain Jon Tunnell.
While students residing in campus housing were eventually allowed to return to their residence halls, the rest of the campus remained off-limits as Lubbock Power & Light continued working to resolve the dangerous situation and restore electricity.
The cause of the explosion and subsequent fires remains unclear as officials provided few details about how such a catastrophic failure could occur at a major university.
While authorities have reported no injuries, the sudden and unexpected nature of the explosion endangered thousands of students and faculty.
As students begin their unexpectedly early spring break, university administrators face the daunting task of investigating the cause, repairing the damaged electrical systems, and explaining the failure.
