VIDEO: New Trump Tariffs Started at Midnight

Yellow sign saying tariffs just ahead cloudy sky

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Today marks the day President Donald Trump delivered on his promise to protect American manufacturing and jobs with 25% tariffs on global steel and aluminum imports.

Watch the video down below.

The sweeping tariffs target foreign imports from countries including the European Union, Australia, and Canada, forcing them to compete fairly or invest in American facilities.

Global elites are already crying foul as America finally stands up for its economic interests.

The new tariffs impose a uniform 25% duty on steel and aluminum imports with no exceptions or exemptions.

This includes an increase on aluminum tariffs, which were previously set at 10%, and extends to downstream products made from these metals.

The measures are part of President Trump’s broader strategy to strengthen Section 232 national security tariffs, which was first implemented in 2018.

While foreign leaders predictably complain about the tariffs, President Trump has promised these measures will revitalize the US metals sector, create jobs, and restore America’s manufacturing might.

Canada received a temporary reprieve following negotiations. White House Senior Counselor Peter Navarro confirmed that the US would not increase tariffs on Canadian metals to the previously planned 50%.

The president initially threatened to double tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, which forced confrontational Ontario Premier Doug Ford into an agreement that maintained the 25% rate.

The European Union has already announced retaliatory measures, planning counter-tariffs on $28 billion worth of American goods starting in April.

This hostile response demonstrates foreign economies’ dependence on unfair access to American markets.

“We regret the unjustified US 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports. The EU will protect its consumers and businesses,” the European Commission stated.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen tried to sound tough while keeping the door open for compromise, describing the EU’s planned actions as “strong but proportionate.”

Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese complained that the tariffs were “entirely unjustified.”

So far, his country has not decided to impose reciprocal tariffs to avoid inflating prices for Australian consumers.

The tariffs are already showing positive effects as foreign companies consider investing in American manufacturing facilities.

South Korean steelmakers are exploring options to build plants in the United States, proving President Trump’s strategy works by bringing foreign investment and jobs to American soil instead of shipping prosperity overseas.

China, the second-largest supplier of aluminum to the US, is particularly affected by these tariffs.

The communist nation has long engaged in dumping and providing unfair subsidies to its metals industry, practices that have devastated American manufacturers for decades.

Now, it faces additional tariffs related to its role in fentanyl trafficking, a welcome double blow to a regime that has been taking advantage of America for too long.

US Customs and Border Protection has implemented strict requirements for quota paperwork to be processed by specific deadlines, ensuring that the full tariffs will be applied as intended.

This no-nonsense approach signals that the administration is serious about enforcing these protective measures without the loopholes and exceptions that typically water down America’s trade policies.

As global markets adjust to America’s renewed economic strength, American workers and manufacturers can finally compete on a level playing field.

The days of sending jobs overseas while foreigners flood markets with cheap, subsidized products are finally coming to an end.
