White House Blasts DeSantis for Signing New Florida’s Gun Law

(AmericanProsperity.com) – White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre criticized Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Monday for signing into law a legislation that permits residents in the so-called Sunshine State to carry concealed guns without any authorization, following last week’s shooting at The Covenant private Christian School in Nashville, Tennessee.

In a statement, Jean-Pierre said that it was “shameful” for the Florida governor to take this step after another shooting, pointing out this represents the opposite of “commonsense gun safety. The Press Secretary also said that Florida residents deserve better, as she claimed the state has already paid a high price for the authorities’ inaction on guns, following the numerous shootings that have been taking place in Florida over the last few years. These include the ones at the Pulse Nightclub and Pine Hills in Orlando and the one in the Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland

As reported by the Tampa Bay Times, the Florida governor signed the legislation during a private event in his own office. He eventually issued a news release about the ceremony which took place in front of a group of 20 people. This new law will allow those who can legally have a gun in the state to carry it without any authorization. In fact, background and training checks won’t be needed to carry a weapon in public.

Over the last few years, the Biden administration has repeatedly called the legislative branch to pass an “assault weapons ban” to reduce the number of shootings in the United States. In fact, President Joe Biden even called on Congress to pass his ban, in a public address he made after the Christian School shooting, as he claimed this was the only way to progress on this matter.

While the White House has said that President Biden has already executed some executive actions to solve the problem of gun trafficking and ghost guns, the commander-in-chief said last week these measures won’t be enough. Critics have pointed out that the president’s actions affect civil liberties as they represent a significant threat to the country’s Second Amendment.
