White House Pressures Facebook Over COVID Content

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO, has said that senior Biden administration officials pressured Facebook to “censor” some of their COVID-19 content during the pandemic. Zuckerberg said that they would push back if these kinds of demands were made again.

Zuckerberg wrote a letter to Jim Jordan, the Republican chair of the House Judiciary Committee, stating that these officials “repeatedly pressured” Facebook for months to take down “certain COVID-19 content including humor and satire.”

In the letter Zuckerberg stated, ”I believe the government pressure was wrong and I regret that we were not more outspoken about it.”

This was an effort by Zuckerberg to target misinformation around the pandemic as allegations continued to say that posts were restricted or deleted.

Said Zuckerberg, “I also think we made some choices that, with the benefit of hindsight and new information, we wouldn’t make today.” He continued, “We’re ready to push back if something like this happens again.”

The White House came out with a statement in response saying, “When confronted with a deadly pandemic, this Administration encouraged responsible actions to protect public health and safety.” They continued, “Our position has been clear and consistent: we believe tech companies and other private actors should take into account the effects their actions have on the American people, while making independent choices about the information they present.”

Experts have been concerned about misinformation regarding the upcoming election as well when it comes to social media content being posted. Conservatives have been critical of Facebook and other technology companies and accused them of censorship.

Zuckerberg has attempted to get the perception of the company on the right track and he’s long stated that his goal is to be neutral.
