Why are Americans Overwhelmingly Satisfied With Their Lives?

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Despite stories of national gloom and constant bickering in the media over politics, it seems that Americans are very satisfied with their personal lives and where things are headed in the country.

According to a new poll by Gallup, 90% of Americans are feeling good, which beats the previous high of 88% in 2003.

People are actually happy with their lives, communities, and families. The majority think that things are looking up for them in spite of the nastiness of politics during the heat of a presidential campaign.

The truth is, people’s lives are more than politics or what we see on social media.

We have full lives… we work, take our kids to practice, go grocery shopping, hang out with friends, go to church, and find entertainment that suits our preferences.

Americans’ high level of satisfaction in their personal lives is no coincidence. Their confidence in the US economy is strong and personal finances are at record highs. The fact that two-thirds say they are “very” satisfied reflects how positive many feel about their present situation and future prospects.

Contrary to what Democrats are claiming about dissatisfaction with the economy and job prospects, the Gallup findings are not supporting their rhetoric.

Personal Satisfaction Is Tied to Jobs, Personal Finances, and Personal Relationships

Trade wars and potential economic struggles, as a result, have not dampened how Americans are feeling about the economy or their personal lives.

For five years straight, the economy has been the most important issue for the country.

Not since 2000, have American’s expressed such strong confidence in the US economy. Sixty-two percent say the economy is getting better and is either excellent or good. In addition, 59% believe the economy is still improving.

As the economy grows, so do better job opportunities. The unemployment rate is at a 50-year low, and employers are having to raise wages and increase benefits to attract quality employees. 68% of Americans believe it’s a great time to find a higher paying job.

What good is a job, money, or leisure if you don’t have someone to share it with?

Family life satisfaction is near an all-time high. Respondents in an April 2019 Gallup poll said that 76% were very satisfied with their family life and 17% were somewhat satisfied.

We also get along with each other very well, according to an article in USA Today. The results show that 75% of people say their communities help one another when needed. In addition, 74% in every income, age, and racial group said that people in their neighborhoods get along well.

All Demographic Groups Feel Good

The overwhelming majority of people surveyed are happy with how their lives are going.

However, it’s not perfect.

Wealthier, Republican, or married people likely have a high level of personal satisfaction.

Lower-income, Democrat, or unmarried people may have less satisfaction but are still more satisfied than in previous years.

While it’s not perfect, and it never will be… it’s good to acknowledge when people feel good about where their lives are and their belief in a brighter, more hopeful tomorrow – even when times are good.
