Why Fracking is a Huge Deal in Harris-Trump Election Battle

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Many people have honed in on Vice President Kamala Harris’ stance on fracking since she became the Democratic presidential nominee.

When Kamala Harris ran for the Democratic Presidential Primary in 2019, she said that she wanted to ban fracking. However, she’s gone back on this statement in an interview with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, that she doesn’t want to ban it anymore.

Fracking is the term used for hydraulic fracturing, an oil and gas extraction technique that involves injecting water, sand, and chemicals into rocks. Fracking allowed for the United States to grow as a gas and oil producer.

Oil production in the United States has grown from producing five million barrels of oil per day to now producing thirteen million barrels of oil per day.

Jeff Barron, petroleum industry economist at the Energy Information Administration, said, “The bulk of our oil production is from tight oil formations, which basically comes from fracking.”

He continued, “If you did not have this technological advancement … United States oil production would probably be a lot lower.”

He said that there’s an argument where some feel natural gas prices would be lower than they might be otherwise if fracking wasn’t a thing. There’s also a safety concern associated with fracking. Nicole Deziel, a professor at Yale, said that there is evidence that families that live near fracking wells have related negative health impacts.

A study from Yale University linked fracking sites to Leukemia and it has been linked to Lymphoma by a University of Pittsburgh study.

It’s important in this election because of one particular state where fracking is extremely common; Pennsylvania is known for fracking, and it is a large swing state that holds nineteen electoral votes.

Many have speculated that Harris’s change of heart when it comes to fracking is solely linked to the desire to gain a political advantage in Pennsylvania.
