World Health Organization Declares Monkeypox Public Health Emergency

(AmericanProsperity.com) – The World Health Organization has declared Mpox a public health emergency for the entire world with a new strain spreading in Africa.

WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “Today, the Emergency Committee met and advised me that in its view, the situation constitutes a public health emergency of international concern. I have accepted that advice.”

According to information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over sixteen hundred cases of Mpox were reported in the U.S. this year; this is over two times the number of cases from last year.

Monkeypox is an epidemic in Central and Western Africa, but the cases have been increasing dramatically in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. There have already been more than fourteen thousand Mpox cases reported in the DRC with over five hundred of those ending in death.

Clade I and Clade II are two types of Monkeypox and researchers have looked into Clade I, as it’s caused more localized outbreaks. A Clade I variant referred to as Clade Ib is transmitted mostly through sexual contact and it appears to be the main driver for the outbreak in the DRC.

“The detection and rapid spread of a new clade of mpox in eastern DRC, its detection in neighboring countries that had not previously reported mpox, and the potential for further spread within Africa and beyond are very worrying,” Tedros said.

The African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declared Monkeypox a public health emergency of continental security. The same day this was announced, WHO put out a report that showed a total of over nine hundred Mpox confirmed cases and four deaths from over twenty different countries just in the month of June. The CDC has said that the transmission of this type of Mpox coming into America is low risk.
